Nvidia Expands Presence in India with Strategic Partnerships and Hindi Language Model

Nvidia, the American chip manufacturer, has announced significant advancements in its Indian operations, underscoring its commitment to enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in one of the world’s largest technology markets. During its AI Summit held in Mumbai, CEO Jensen Huang unveiled several partnerships with major Indian companies, including Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, to bolster AI capabilities across the nation.

The collaboration between Reliance and Nvidia aims to establish comprehensive AI infrastructure, which Huang noted would dramatically increase India’s computing power—projected to be twenty times greater by year-end compared to the previous year. Huang emphasized India’s evolving role from a software-exporting country to one that will increasingly export AI technology. “India is central to the IT industry globally,” he remarked, highlighting the strategic importance of the region in Nvidia’s plans.

In addition to the partnerships, Nvidia introduced the Nemotron-4-Mini-Hindi 4B, a compact Hindi language model designed for deployment by companies utilizing Nvidia’s hardware. This initiative acknowledges Hindi as the most widely spoken language in India and complements Tech Mahindra’s own AI initiative, Project Indus 2.0, which seeks to harness Nvidia’s model for Hindi applications.

Strategic alliances also manifested in the form of engagements with other leading Indian IT companies, such as Yotta, Tata Communications, Infosys, Wipro, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). It aims to train around half a million developers in the fields of AI technology and its application. This will make Nvidia play an even more central role in the Indian technology space.

It is in accordance with the Indian government’s vision for an independent, strong, semiconductor industry to help it realize its intentions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to upgrade the electronics sector value from its current mark of $155 billion to $500 billion by the end of 2030 by creating a feasible atmosphere for foreign investment.

Ambani’s participation in the Nvidia summit represents Reliance Jio’s ambitions towards becoming the premier AI player in India and using data from close to a billion internet users to democratize AI in consumer, enterprise, and even government realms.

With Nvidia growing the Indian footprint, it looks to capitalize on increasing demand for AI technologies that presents broad prospects of cooperation and innovation in the region.
